Like never before, the MRCC Premier league returned with a
bigger, better & energetic version of it in May 2017. MRCC Premier League
(MPL), our personalized and an entertaining version of IPL is one of the much
awaited events every year. The tempo of the sheer excitement, participation,
mischief and playing skills just keeps rising by each passing year.
This year we had a new twist to the game. The ladies of
MRCC, who until now only owned teams, stepped right onto the cricket field and
how! From bowling, batting, wicket
keeping to fielding our sporty female employees did not leave any stone
unturned. MRCC upholds its approach of equal opportunity in all walks, be it
business or fun.
From the moment MPL 2017 announcement mail was floated, the
floor was abuzz with owners’ negotiating terms with their counterparts, picking
up fun fights, luring the best players of opposing teams. This year, the
vivacious Cricket Tournament drew in an overwhelming response of a whopping 70
male players & 20 female players. Much
like the ‘Lagaan’ team, players took to a full-fledged practice by stepping on
the ground as early as 7.00 am every day until the office hours. The female
employees seemed definitely more focussed towards grasping the precise
techniques of bowling, holding a bat and getting a hang of the typical cricket
lingo.
This time the male employees also
took to being the owners of the teams. The event began with team owners bidding
for acquiring the best players (male & female) in their teams. The auction
set itself right in the office to attract maximum crowd cheering and fun. Rowdy
Paltan, Dangal Devils, Chatrapati Warriors and Smashing Swingers were some
of the power packed teams all set to go all out and play the matches.
With team rallies modifying
itself to more of dancing, the teams went berserk with their promotions in the
office. Each teams logo, flags, posters camouflaged the office space looking
like an actual battle ground.
The day arrived on the 6th of
May’17. The teams’ commendable willpower and energy beat the scorching heat
through the day. Matches began with 1st over exclusively played by
our female employees and scoring 11 runs off 6 balls! Right from the start, the matches were
extremely close. More often than not, the games winning point was shouldered by
the females scoring maximum in the 1st over of the match. When it
came to fielding, tremendous dedication and focus was displayed by each player
sometimes also diving far & wide to stop a boundary or take the catch.
Interestingly, we could draw a
parallel with the finals of IPL 2017 - Mumbai Indians & Pune Supergiants
and the MPL finals - Rowdy Paltan & Dangal Devils. The scores progressed
similarly leaving Dangal devils 4 runs to win of 1 ball. And Rowdy Paltan took
the winning title by restricting that last run! Nerve-wrecking last over
indeed…
As the day ended,
all the teams once again came together keeping aside all differences and
rejoiced in the overall enjoyment. Winners enjoyed their share of Winning and
Non-Winners gathered their share of learning’s.
And MRCC is already looking forward to MPL 2018 yet again bigger and
better than ever.
